To the members of CUPE Local 786:

I am writing to inform you that CUPE Local 786 has been placed under administration by the CUPE National President.

Administration is a constitutional authority given to the National union to place a local under direct supervision and control of an administrator, effectively replacing all elected officers of the local (see Article 7.8 of the Constitution).

The Constitution requires that this only be done in cases of emergency and with substantive evidence that it would be in the best interests of the local that such action is taken.

In the case of CUPE Local 786, the local was placed under administration due to serious  governance, by-law, and financial irregularities that were reported. The executive has been  relieved of their office and steps have been taken to secure the local’s office and assets. This is a decision that the National union does not take lightly and it was done with the best interests of the members of CUPE Local 786 in mind.

In order to move forward, I have been appointed the administrator of CUPE Local 786 by the National union. I will be assisted by members of the local to ensure that regular local business continues. In addition, a new website and new social media platforms have been launched.

I encourage all members to visit cupe786.org to sign up for regular updates from the local.

For members with further questions about the future of the local, the process of administration and the election of a new executive, there will be general member information sessions scheduled in the very near future. Please sign up for regular updates on the new local website.

I appreciate your cooperation at this time, and anticipate moving forward together.
