When Amazon workers in Laval, Quebec unionized last April, the company did everything in their power to stop them. When public relations campaigns and legal challenges failed, the company shut down all its operations in the province, and 4,500 workers lost their jobs.
This is a clear attack on the rights of workers to organize, and as such it’s an attack on the whole labour movement. That’s why we’re proud to announce that the members of CUPE Local 786 voted to endorse the “Here, We Boycott Amazon” campaign to stand alongside these workers in their fight for justice against this powerful multinational corporation.
Therefore, you’re encouraged to participate in the boycott by avoiding purchases from Amazon and by cancelling your Amazon Prime subscription.
For some this may be a small sacrifice, for others larger. But it’s important because if Amazon is allowed to behave this way, it’s only a matter of time before our rights come under threat as well. An injury to one is an injury to all!
